How Can Osteopathy Help You?

At Harmonia, we don’t just treat conditions — we support people. People who are tired, in
pain, recovering, growing, carrying stress, or simply seeking to feel more at home in their
body again.

Osteopathy is a safe, gentle, and whole-person approach to health. It works by helping your
body release tension, restore natural movement, and return to its own rhythm of healing.

You may not always know the cause of what you’re feeling. Maybe you’ve been living with
discomfort for so long, it feels normal. Or perhaps something recent — an injury, illness,
pregnancy, or period of stress — has left your body feeling out of balance. Wherever you are
in your journey, osteopathy can offer a way forward.

Osteopathy can support with:

  • Back, neck, and shoulder pain
  • Postural problems from work, injury, or lifestyle
  • Stress-related tension and fatigue
  • Digestive and circulatory issues
  • Headaches and jaw pain
  • Pregnancy-related discomfort
  • Recovery after birth or surgery
  • Support for babies and children
  • Restricted mobility or general stiffness
  • Nervous system regulation and emotional overwhelm

Every session at Harmonia is tailored to you. Suzanne takes time to listen — not just to your
words, but to your body. She draws on gentle structural, cranial, and biodynamic
osteopathic techniques to meet your system where it is, and help it find ease again.

Osteopathy doesn’t force the body into change. It creates space — so that healing can begin.

Types of Osteopathy Offered at Harmonia

Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial osteopathy is a gentle, hands-on treatment that focuses on the subtle, rhythmic
movements of the body’s tissues, particularly in the skull, spine, and sacrum. This method of
treatment uses very gentle manipulative pressure to encourage the release of stress
throughout the body, including the head.

Developed in the early 1900s by Dr. William G. Sutherland, cranial osteopathy is based on
the idea that these natural, rhythmic movements are essential to the body’s health and can
be influenced to release tension, improve function, and support healing.

Cranial osteopaths are trained to feel a subtle, rhythmical shape change that is present
throughout the whole body, including the skull. Osteopaths use light pressure to detect and
correct imbalances or restrictions, helping to restore the body’s natural balance and
improve overall well-being.

This approach is suitable for all ages and is particularly effective for treating babies,
children, and adults with stress, tension, or trauma-related conditions.

Structural Osteopathy

Structural osteopathy is a traditional, hands-on approach that focuses on the body’s
musculoskeletal system — particularly the bones, joints, muscles, and ligaments. This form
of osteopathy uses physical techniques to improve joint mobility, relieve muscle tension,
and physically re-align the body.

Founded by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still in the late 19th century, structural osteopathy is based
on the understanding that the structure and function of the body are closely connected. By
improving structural alignment, we can support the body’s natural ability to function and
heal.

Structural osteopaths use a variety of manual techniques, including stretching, soft tissue
massage, joint manipulation, and mobilisation. These help to correct imbalances, relieve
tension, and restore movement.

In addition to rebalancing the musculoskeletal system, structural osteopathy enhances
blood flow and nerve function throughout the body — supporting your own healing
processes from within.

By restoring alignment and releasing physical strain, structural osteopathy can reduce pain,
improve mobility, and help you feel more balanced and at ease in your body.

Biodynamic Osteopathy

Biodynamic osteopathy is a gentle, holistic approach that focuses on the body’s natural
rhythms and self-healing abilities. It is a deeply intuitive form of treatment that honours the
body’s innate wisdom and capacity for renewal.

Developed from the principles of cranial osteopathy by Dr. William G. Sutherland and
further refined by Dr. James Jealous, biodynamic osteopathy emphasises the inherent health
that is always present within the body — even in times of illness or injury.

Rather than focusing solely on symptoms or structural issues, this approach works with the
subtle, energetic forces within the body to restore balance and promote healing. Osteopaths
trained in this method use very light touch to sense and support the body’s natural
movements and rhythms, allowing the system to self-correct and heal from within.

This approach is suitable for all ages and is particularly beneficial for those with chronic
conditions, stress, fatigue, or trauma. Biodynamic osteopathy offers a space of stillness and
support, where deep healing can gently unfold.
